Meet Key Powell
Key Powell is a second-generation security professional with more than 30 years of experience helping communities solve the everyday problems that arise when security systems meet real life. As the owner of Key Security Services, he has helped grow the company into one of Florida’s largest installers of locks, gates, access control systems, and surveillance solutions serving community associations across Florida’s Gulf Coast.
Over the past decade, Key has also become a sought-after speaker and educator within the community association industry. He is a certified Continuing Education instructor in the State of Florida, regularly teaching classes for community association managers and board members on practical security, risk management, and real-world problem solving. His sessions are known for combining humor, case studies, and field experience to turn complex security topics into practical lessons audiences can immediately apply.
Drawing from thousands of real service calls, investigations, and system failures, Key shares stories that audiences immediately recognize from their own communities. Rather than theoretical presentations, his talks focus on what actually happens in the field—how problems start, how they escalate, and what simple decisions can prevent costly mistakes. His presentations are designed to be engaging, practical, and immediately useful for managers and board members responsible for protecting their communities.
Key is also the author of The Gate Worked Yesterday: Stories from the Front Lines of Community Security, a collection of real-world stories that reveal the unexpected ways systems fail—and what communities can do to prevent problems before they happen.
Whether speaking to a small roundtable discussion, leading an educational session, or presenting to a large audience, Key’s goal is simple: help communities create systems that deliver what every resident ultimately wants—peace of mind.
Stay curious. The best lessons are the ones we discover together.
