Testimonials

“Key's classes are the highlight of the event. He is engaging, funny, and a fantastic storyteller. Even though I have heard him speak several times, each class is unique and I always leave with a new nugget of wisdom.”
Diana Waldman
Founder at Empower You

“Security and technology is changing rapidly and I often find myself overwhelmed. Key takes these complex subjects and makes them clear and applicable. No fancy jargon or industry speak-just plain, practical ideas that help me protect my community, board of directors, and homeowners.”
Eric Leon
VP Marketing at Bright Horizons

“My board was living in the dark ages with systems that hadn't been updated in 20 years. I brought the board to one of Key's presentations and they went from being afraid of upgrading to being at peace. He takes the uncertainty out of security.”

The Gates Worked Yesterday
Every security failure starts the same way:
“It was working yesterday.”
Behind that sentence are stories of broken gates, copied fobs, unsecured vendor access, and small oversights that became expensive lessons.
After three decades serving Florida’s Gulf Coast communities, Key C. Powell has seen the patterns. In The Gates Worked Yesterday, he pulls back the curtain on what actually goes wrong in community security—and why.
This is not a technical manual. It’s a field guide for community association leaders who are tired of reactive decisions and ready to think strategically about protection, risk, and responsibility.
Because security isn’t just hardware.
It’s leadership.
